Glendale, AZ – Westgate Development & Cardinals' Stadium

The Situation

The development of a new football stadium and surrounding attractions promises to bring large crowds of people to the area. Wireless service providers knew they would need to add capacity to support the jump in demand that would result from the new development, and would also need to provision in-stadium coverage for event attendees. No ground space was available in the area for the deployment of macro sites, so services providers had to look at an alternative coverage and capacity solution.

The development of a new football stadium and surrounding attractions prompted the need to add capacity to support growing demand.

NewPath's Solution

NewPath Networks leads the industry in the design, development and execution of multi-carrier, protocol-independent, distributed antenna system (DAS) in areas where macro sites are not an option. To facilitate the build-out of a DAS network that could accommodate multiple providers and meet the community requirements, NewPath engaged with multiple jurisdictions and companies that were involved with the project, including:

  • City of Glendale
  • Arizona Department of Transportation
  • SRP Telecom
  • APS
  • Private Developer
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Maricopa County Sports Authority

NewPath partnered with these organizations to plan, develop and implement an integrated indoor and outdoor network for the area that leveraged existing utility structures and provided multiple service providers access to the additional capacity and coverage that was needed in this area. The network solution includes six (6) outdoor nodes covering major ingress/egress (common system), and utilized four utility poles and two traffic poles to house the antennas without the need for new structure build-out. The plan also includes an in-building system to provide capacity and coverage within the new football stadium. All wireless carrier equipment located in an existing SRP substation located about 1.5 miles from the node locations, with connections to the nodes running on SRP fiber. The carriers simply connect to the fiber front-end of the NewPath system via the SRP substation location.

The Result

As a result of the NewPath deployment, multiple wireless carriers are now able to provide services within the new stadium and surrounding areas while addressing community concerns with macro site proliferation and ground space.
